Atomic Habits

We built the first SHLVY 10 years ago, and since then the idea for a better bookshelf sat in the background—much like the growing stacks of books in our home. We had built a prototype, and loved it, but life got in the way. And we didn’t know how to launch it.

Starting a company felt overwhelming, and we kept telling ourselves, someday.

While Atomic Habits didn’t exactly make the idea happen, it helped get us to a place where we knew we had to make it a focus.

The book taught us that big changes don’t happen all at once—they happen through small, consistent actions. Instead of waiting for the “perfect time” to launch, we focused on one step at a time: refining our design, sourcing materials, testing layouts.

Clear’s idea that “every action is a vote for the person you want to become” resonated deeply. Each small step—reaching out to a supplier, breaking things to fix them, sketching new designs—became proof that we weren’t just thinking about starting SHLVY. We were doing it.

Now, SHLVY is here.

And just like Atomic Habits taught us, it wasn’t one giant leap—it was years of tiny, stacked decisions that finally turned into something real.

So if you’re sitting on an idea, a project, or a dream—just start. Even small habits, repeated daily, can build something remarkable.
